[To-Do List]Well... a while back a friend of mine wanted to give me their bike, with the promise I would use it. I gave my word and their parents got it some new tires and I went to their house and did some work to 'earn' it. The next morning, while I was packing it in the back of a van to take back to Minneapolis my friend's mom came out and told me it was only a loan and I could give it back when I didn't need it anymore. I want to say, there really was no reason for them to need the bike, it was old and in poor shape to begin with... and a little crabby about this late information... I got it to Minneapolis.
It takes a while to get use to biking, being regardless of being thin I was out of shape... but I pushed myself. At first I'd bike three miles a day and take a cheaper bus, and as I got better at biking I started biking the whole six miles (there and back). Despite my efforts, the bike was old, and not tuned, nor could I afford to get it tuned up. The brakes stopped working, and I had to go at a slow pace to brake with my feet. Last Friday (the 13th) on the way to school my brake fell completely off the handle, and I had to call *
MythicPhoenix to bring me a toolbox... but the problem was irreversible. We secured it best we cold with electrical tape and I went back to riding and braking with my feet (which hurts like hell when you got the pedal ramming into the back of your calf.)
Well today, while crossing an intersection, the brake falls off, catches into the wheel really deeply and I nearly fall off... but as I was going slower due to the dark, bright lights, heavy traffic, and the fact I was already scared. I didn't get hurt, but half down the road I had to pick the bike up and drag it to the curb. The wheel wasn't budging.
I sat on the curb trying to yank the brake handle out of the front wheel. The cord was wrapped around the bike frame and the handle jammed pretty tight... and being I nearly got ran into twice that day and nearly crashed into a pedestrian due to my lack of brakes, I had already been pretty shaken up. My strength was just not with me, and my hands were trembling. A lady in a truck saw me struggling on the curb, and she pulled into a parking lot behind me and asked me if I needed help. I was panicking already. I had class in twenty minutes and there was no way I could make it close to being on time. The lady offered me a lift, and on the way there she said she had a practically new bicycle I could have. While I couldn't pay for it, being I already owe money to others, I offered to do her up an illustration, and she seemed really excited about it. She requested a painting of her horse, and I get to pick up the bike on Tuesday... which is a nice little turn of luck I suppose. I have been having some really, really rotten luck lately and its been a bit tough trucking through it all.
Well... after this bike ride from hell, I can just say I'm happy I am still alive.
All in all, just remember:
